'JabberWocky' by Lewis Carrol
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
name : Raama
gender : female
past affiliation : The Jabberwock; a creature of dreams but usually affiliated with nightmares and bad things.
power : Raama doesn't appear to have any magical or related type power of any kind, and thus relies on mainly physical strength. She is a rather tough creature, fitted with thickish skin and scales, if needing to defend herself furthermore she will do so with teeth and claw but usually opts against to retaliate and often grows bored of the situation at hand. Raama has a dislike for weapony, namely swords and could be said to be actually afraid and wary of them. Though, lacking in the physical majiks, the once Jabberwock will slowly gain the ability to dreamwalk as she once did in her past life; though not as successful and powerfully as before. Her power over affect will not be as strong and her ability to go as she pleases will be somewhat hindered, as sometimes ending up in someone's head at random.
Appearance : Raama's skin is a muted grey with hints of dulled yellow upon the scales of her body, this coloring continues to the simple tail that extends from her body and also to the wings that protrude from her back. The joints and skin are the same tone and the tattered and torn webbing holds more of the yellow tones. Her body frame is thin, bordering on lanky and she is generally short for her stature. Her ears are different; not human nor even elven. The best way to explain they're look is - sadly and honestly - like Chii's 'ears.' They curl downward, pretty much hiding any hint of being what it is and any possible known way of it actually functioning properly - yet they do. It's maaagic ~ Her eyes are flame red hinted with yellows and oranges. Though one would image they would be vibrant and aflame, they tend to often be dulled and confused. But at times they are able to hold their nature and spark to life, depending on her mood or other happenings. Her hair trails past her shoulders and is almost matching to her eyes but is paled in comparison. It is as if someone took orange and added pink and yellow to it in a thoughtful manner. It is usually worn long with no bangs except two large strands that frame her face. Four long antenna peak from her head, two on either side, one pointing more up and the others down. [this is something I'm not sure about as explained in the extended portion of her profile:] The most bizarre and puzzling aspect of Raama are the tiger like stripes or tattoos that appear on Raama's legs. Neither the Fa'e nor chiri have any clue of the reasons for this aspect. [but aha, there is a reason :ninja:]
Personality Raama is surprisingly cheerful and balanced despite being what she is and her original location. A stoic and calm smile graces her face and her dull eyes, though seemingly lacking life. As a child she is rather quiet and unsure of anything or anyone, not in a non-trusting manner but in an unsure one. Slowly the shell can be cracked and a more friendly air could be felt from her and she will be more talkative but sometimes not seen in a good way. Most of what comes from her mouth is utter nonsense, riddles or portmanteaux; but they make some sense, especially to her. Old English, and British English words like to creep in her speech at times as well, but as the common language spoken within chiri's walls is American English, it will soon replace the habits; though will never really touch on getting her to totally speak 'correctly.'
As a creature once from the land known as 'Wonderland,' she still holds the quality of being a tad not right in the head. Not clinically crazy, she just could be deemed abnormal by modern society; already mentioned with the way she speaks. She has really no sense of right or wrong, but what seems fitting to her needs and what makes sense - and badly influenced by chirigami who also has this same problem. and because of usual banter towards her, she is easily frustrated which leads to a somewhat short temper - which springs forth because of another matter from her past. When angered, she's ... obviously angry. Her eyes fill with what should be behind such flamed eyes, her skin darkens somewhat and she's obviously snappy and gone from the calm abnormal girl.
One object, that should be mentioned, that could spark the short fuse or even stop it is the sound of a bell. She can easily lash out at the sound of one, or be stopped in her tracks and huddled into a little ball.
weaknesses:
. Bells are a primary weakness for her, or at least anything that jingles and jangles. After some time adapting to the sound, she may grow to a tolerance to it but nothing in the sort to tune them out as many normal people often can.
. Cats. Even though her best friend used to be one, she is very wary of them - somewhat afraid when a small child yes - but more of over cautious around them.
. Swords. She doesn't like them, they're sharp and pointy and hurt - and cut off heads.
. Magic. Even with tough skin, she can't defend well against it and can easily be harmed by the elements.
. Laws and Morals. She just doesn't understand them and why society has set things when sometimes they don't make sense. Soon they will, since she has too, but she still just won't know why.
background : [as always, the Reader's Digest version] The story of the Jabberwocky is one that is well known
in a whimsical poem, but as it is well known about it's death, nothing is
known much about it's life. It lived in a swamp, but how did it get
there and how did it become such a fearful creature in the first place?
Wonderland was a land of within the worlds of dreams and nightmares, where ideas from one's head would
flourish and grow and originate in the first place. This was where Jabberwocky lived it's life, finding a nice comfortable swap to call its own. It liked the
sulfur smell and the dead and dying around her, it gave it an eerie sense of hope that it would be able to live there. As the stories go, it was indeed one of the many loons that lived across the vast lands. But, it was ironically one of the more sane, despite its appearance as one of the more dangerous. Enjoying teas at the MadHatter's and Croquette with The Queen of Hearts, it went on with its life without as much as a care. Its greatest friend, as it was, was the Cheshire Cat, the two enjoyed their pranks on fellow dreams and wanderings into the minds of humans, wrecking havoc and leaving beautiful nightmares in their wake.
But, then something changed and Jabberwocky didn't even know what had happened, the day was a blank and the day was dark. It found
itself with inner turmoil with its mind, finding voices in its head that
it couldn't get rid of. It was that day an outside force came to destroy its very balance that dwindled in its mind. Its once calm lunacy turned into dangerous insanity and its fun havoc turned to
disastrous property and soul damage upon the masses of Wonderland and LookingGlass, and even those that dreamt. Its dearest friend feared for its life and for his as well and ordered the knights to try and "calm" it, but his ideals were a bit sick and twisted but always seemed to fail. One after another, the knights all perished from their attempts of subduing the fearsome
Jabberwocky, until the unexpected. A mere boy, not even having used a sword more than enough, managed to sneak up on the Jabberwocky. The blonde child came out of no where, most likely during an inner struggle. All it heard
was the sound of a bell and then felt something upon its neck, to then the world faded to black and darkness engulfed it.
So how does chirigami fit into this? : It was all the cat's doing, he couldn't stand to see his friend in turmoil and pain, and couldn't stand seeing it not as itself. In bizarre
reasoning, he figured its death would be the best solution to the problem and geared the knights to slay the Jabberwocky. He played off its now
destructive ways, and enticed them all to take a stab at it. As they failed, the interest grew for all the brave and
courageous. But still, they all failed. The blonde child was even a surprise for the cat, but it was a job well done and he could do nothing but smile as he watched its head detach from the rest of its body and that body fall to the ground and then twitch. He was doing it a favor
and he knew it would thank him for this later on. So, he waited for the right time to give
its soul back to the ages, he waited and waited. And waited some more. And then, the light, he found a person most generous, who would restore souls that were deemed worthy enough to be revived. But, the condition was the find the right person to care for the soul and he found his luck in an equally
unstable and crazy being. chirigami. Oh, how delighted he was and quickly pulled her
subconscious to his own and vaguely retold the story (okay, actually didn't really give much information) and sent the
soul of his friend to the next life. Another job well done for the Cheshire Cat.

Some random explantions of the sort
. why no quest thread? When I think of quest threads, especially with Gaia, I think of collecting gold and donations and items in order to obtain a certain thing. I was never intending to collect 'funds' to get Raama, so it didn't much make sense to me to make a quest thread. So, a webpage for her idea came to mind, logical... if people asked what my concept was I could supply them with a link then ~ haazaa, problem solved.
. Jabberwock? Why yes, indeed, I've loved the poem since I were little as I did with Alice in Wonderland as a whole and when I scaled the myths to find the 'perfect one' I was brought back to the poem thanks to a school assignment. Haha! the creature was killed in the story, so I worked from there.
. Aren't Fa'e supposed to be from myths and legends? Yes, that rule is enforced now but when I created her it wasn't so much, gearing up to be and almost but she was approved by Anya! and Sosi when Yuumei and Syrenrei decided she would be their first child. If Anya! now has any problems with her, I would be more than happy to change her in any way as she will always have the final say in the matter.
. will she ever speak normally? Maybe, probably, depends on how crazy it drives me to think of what she has to say.
. Raama will be left handed
. Don't Fa'e have to have a good reason to why they would be reborn? Yes, they generally do but Raama is reborn for someone else's selfish reasons, the Cheshire Cat's as it was also this selfishness that caused her death as well. Is it regret on his part for being the cause? Oh, no.. 'course not, he doesn't feel remorse for having her killed, he though it was helping her as he does with making her become a tangent being. [ and a whole slew of other things he has planned to get her back into his life.]
. attire? Raama's usual choice of clothing is going to be sort of mixed, partly because of chirigami's financial means. As chirigami really has no job, until recently but doesn't gain a lot of profit, she makes most of her clothing. So, she would pretty much be fitted in homemade clothing - either fashioned after cosplays or actual Gaian fashions or from Earth. There will also be hints from Gothic - NOT goth, gothic, like... victorian - and Victorian fashions. Old English, those pretty dresses and such.
some things I'm pondering over
. keeping her wings : Thought it is rather obvious that the Jabberwock probably had wings, as noted by the whiffling and John Tenniel's illustrations; which he worked on with Carroll, I thought it would be interesting to not include them. I made them useless to her anywho....
. chopping off most of her hair : this came from a doodle I did with Raama with short hair. It looked like of cute and hey, not a lot of Fa'e have uber short hair xDD
. abstract expressionism : came from the exact same time I doodled her short hair. hurray for modernism? I'm not the greatest fan of the art stlye, but learning about it... I mused that Raama would find some freedom and liberation with painting in the style. Seems fitting for those not in the right of mind.
and hey! Her dad is an artist! ahahaha
. the 'other thing': It seems like more of such a random element to the story of her, like it was just more of a plot device to make her go insane with no real thought behind the whole thing. There are other, perhaps more, logical ways to go about the sudden change in her but at the time I thought 'hey, a that could work' as out there as it was. It's from a totally different culture after all! - more explained in the spoiler section -
I'll probably add more later or realize I left some things out and such...
